Infant Mental Health

Infant Mental Health

Many children, individual's, and families can experience symptoms associated with painful and traumatic circumstances. Anxiety, fear, depression, and hopelessness are a few emotions that can linger post traumatic events. When a young child ages 0-6 experiences these mental health issues, there is professional counseling available. This specialty of counseling is often referred to as infant mental health.

In some instances young children can have those issues listed above when there is no obvious trauma. But often there is a function behind the behavior and it is our job to help the family to understand the child and what they are expressing. Using both family and individual therapeutic interventions we aim to get you and your child to a place of connection and homeostasis.

We are located in the Palm Beaches, in Wellington and Lake Worth, Florida. If you or your child is suffering, you may benefit from child therapy techniques and interventions which we provide.

Who Can Benefit?

Children ages birth-6 years old, who are experiencing symptoms ranging from excessive crying, irritability, sadness, to extreme "tantrums". Children first learn how to communicate through behavior and we are here to help you understand what they may be trying to express.

Child Parent Psychotherapy (CPP)

This intervention is for children birth- 6 years old who have experienced trauma(s). Children heal through relationships; and research shows that children are most resilient with the help of at least ONE supportive caregiver. Using CPP, the caregiver learns how their own upbringing affects their current parenting, how to increase connection with your child, and how to be be that ONE supportive caregiver your child needs. Sessions begin with the caregiver individually, and ultimately occur weekly with the caregiver and child present together.

Play Therapy

Children 4 and up can benefit from individual therapy sessions. Due to their age, often techniques from Play Therapy are involved. Children communicate through their behavior, and their first language is play. Through play, children can express emotions, assert much needed power and control, and most importantly understand and process past and present experiences in their life. We call this mastery- when  a child attempts to understand and process events, relationships, experiences, trauma(s), etc. This is done in a safe environment where the child can be free to direct their own therapy- aka direct their own play.
